The other day, I posted something in another thread where I asked members what was the first word that popped into their head when they saw/heard the word "cheap"?
My first response was from
Whoknows and his reply was "perfume". That phrase, cheap perfume, made me instantly think of Journey's DON'T STOP BELIEVING. The post went in a different direction from what I planned but it was so much fun! Example, there were other responses to the word "cheap" that included shoddy, floozy and several more and
huxley999 was able to cite songs with those words in them!
Let's pick a RANDOM word and see if a song comes to mind. My guess is not every word will trigger a song to pop into our heads, but who knows. If you would kindly post a few lines of the song that reflects "the word", the name of the song and the artist and if you like, a YouTube link to the song. PLEASE ATTACH YOUR SONG TO THE PARTICULAR "WORD OF THE DAY".
Let's have some musical fun!
AC/DC
It was one of those nights when you turn out the lights
And everything comes into view
She was taking her time, I was losing my mind
There was nothing that she wouldn't do
It wasn't the first, wasn't the last
She knew we was making love
I was so satisfied deep down inside
Like a hand in a velvet glove
Seems like a touch, a touch too much
Seems like a touch, a touch too much
Too much for my body, too much for my brain
This damn woman's gonna drive me insane
She's got a touch, a touch too much
Oh!
She had the face of an angel, smiling with sin
The body of venus with arms
Dealin' with danger, strokin' my skin
Like a thunder and lightening storm
It wasn't the first, wasn't the last
It wasn't that she didn't care
She wanted it hard, wanted it fast
She liked it done medium rare
Seems like a touch, a touch too much
Seems like a touch, a touch too much
Too much for my body, too much for my brain
This damn woman's gonna drive me insane
She has a touch, a touch too much
Touch me!
Oh!
Seems like a touch (touch too much)
You know it's much too much (much too much)
I really wanna feel ya (touch too much)
Girl, you know you're givin' me (much too much)
Oh, seems like a touch
Just a dirty little touch
I really need your touch
'Cause you're much too much too much too much
Seems like a touch
A touch too much
Seems like a touch
A touch too much
Give me your touch
A touch too much
Baby you've got a touch
A touch too much
Seems like a touch
A touch too much
A touch too much
A touch too much
A touch too much
Touch, come on and touch me!
Yeah! ahh!

Think I got your dial tone
Think I got Billy Baxter's bone
Think I got a bubble-sac
I think I got a big mac attack
Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce
Special orders, don't upset us
All we ask is that you let us serve it your way
There's too much paranoias
There's too much paranoias
My momma's afraid to tell me the things she's afraid of
I been dipped in double meaning
I been stuck with static cling
Think I got a rupto-pac
I think I got a big mac attack
Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce
Special orders, don't upset us
All we ask is that you let us serve it your way
There's too much paranoias
There's too much paranoias

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone for MUCH too long, oh
I feel like no one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong
Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover and the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster 'cause you never read the signs
Too much love will kill you every time
I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down
Mmm, how would it be if you were standing in my shoes?
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No, there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I'm bound to lose
Oh-oh, yeah
Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime
Too much love will kill you every time
Yeah-yeah, too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end
In the end

Don't know MUCH about history
Don't know MUCH biology
Don't know MUCH about a science book
Don't know MUCH about the French I took
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me, too
What a wonderful world this would be
Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for
But I do know one and one is two
And if this one could be with you
What a wonderful world this would be
Now, I don't claim to be an A student
But I'm trying to be
For maybe by being an A student, baby
I can win your love for me
Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about a science book
Don't know much about the French I took
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me, too
What a wonderful world this would be
La ta ta ta ta ta ta (History)
Hmm-mm-mm (Biology)
La ta ta ta ta ta ta (Science book)
Hmm-mm-mm (French I took)
Yeah, but I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me, too
What a wonderful world this would be

You look good in blue
It matches your skin, your eyes dripping with pain
Someone like you
Getting off on the lies 'cause it dulls your surprise again
If it's alright with you
I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on
You look good in blue
I know what you mean when you say you've seen the end
Someone like you
Been at it again, you KNEW what was up in the end
If it's alright with you
I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on
Throw your weight on me baby
Don't complain on me baby
Escape in me, next to me
I'm tired, always tired and I got not place to sleep
Don't mind dividing down the line
Can't say that I'm complaining 'cause I got no place to play, yeah
Don't mind dividing down the line
You look good in blue
It matches your skin, your eyes dripping with pain
If it's alright with you
I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on
Yes, I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on
All the neighborhoods you knew and loved
All the streets that you played on
All the streams and the fields and parks
And all the lanes you roamed after dark
All the houses you grew up in
The floorboards you hid money in
The beds where you fucked for love
And all the beds where you fucked for fun
The idea that nobody dies
And when our hearts stop beating, we leave it behind
It's just modern ruin, that's what they'll say
Flesh and blood just rotted away
Steel and concrete titans waiting to be enlightened
All wanna go up in a ball of flame
All wanna burn out, not fade away
The cemeteries and their flesh bouquets
The rivers and the mountain lakes
The copper, the concrete, the iron, and gold
And all the stories that we never told
The idea that nobody dies
And when our hearts stop beating, we leave it behind
It's just modern ruin, that's what they'll say
Flesh and blood just rotted away
Steel and concrete titans waiting to be enlightened
All wanna go up in a ball of flame
All wanna burn out, not fade away
All the nights we stayed up till dawn
All the blankets laid out on the lawn
And all the mornings, and the afternoons
And all the evenings and the night times too
And all the bricks and the mortar you called your home
And all the glass and the metal and the wood and the rope
And all the emptiness you filled with hope
And all the blood and the muscle and the skin and the bone
And all the veins and the cells and the molecules
And all the atoms divided that made up you
And all the vast potential you hold inside
All the infinite darkness and all of the light

You tell me that you've never been this way before.
You tell me things I know that I've heard somewhere.
You're standing in the places and you're
staring down through faces, that bring to mind traces
of a girl, a girl that I KNEW somewhere.
I just can't put my finger on what it is
that says to me "Watch out! Don't believe her."
I can't give any reasons girl,
my thoughts are bound down in a whirl.
I just can't think who in the world was that girl;
I know I met her somewhere.
Someway, somehow this same thing was done.
Someone, somewhere did me this same wrong.
Well, goodbye dear, I just can't take this chance again.
My fingers are still burning from the last time.
And if your love was not a game, I only have myself to blame.
That's as may be, I can't explain.
Just ask the girl that I knew somewhere.

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
She looked good (Looked good)
She looked fine (Looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine
And I nearly lost my mind
Before I KNEW it she was walkin' next to me, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
Holdin' my hand just as natural as can be, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
We walked on (Walked on)
To my door (My door)
We walked on to my door
Then we kissed a little more
Whoa-oh, I knew we was falling in love
Yes, I did
And so I told her all the things
I'd been dreamin' of
Now we're together nearly every single day, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
A-we're so happy, and that's how we're gonna stay, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
Well, I'm hers (I'm hers)
She's mine (She's mine)
I'm hers, she's mine
Wedding bells are gonna chime
Whoa-oh, I knew we was falling in love
Yes, I did
And so I told her all the things
I'd been dreamin' of
Now we're together nearly every single day, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
A-we're so happy, and that's how we're gonna stay, singin'
'Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do'
Well, I'm hers (I'm hers)
She's mine (She's mine)
I'm hers, she's mine
Wedding bells are gonna chime
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, oh yeah
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do, we'll sing it
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do, oh yeah, oh, oh yeah
Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do

We met when she was younger
Then I had no eyes for her
A few years went by and I saw her
Now I'm gonna try for her
Look out, babe
She's not the little girl I once KNEW
She's not the little girl I once knew
She's not the little girl I once knew
She's not the little girl I once knew
How could I ever have known that
She'd be what she is today?
And look at how her boyfriend holds her
I'll be moving in one day
Split, man
She's not the little girl I once knew
She's not the little girl I once knew
She's not the little girl I once knew
She's not the little girl I once knew
La doo day pow pow pow
La doo day pow pow pow

Barry Manilow
You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see, I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you
You came along just like a song
And brighten my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away
And now you know I can't smile without you (no I can't)
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see, I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile
Now some people say
Happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard
Leaving your love behind me
And you see, I can't smile without you (no I can't)
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad (I feel)
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you (can't smile without you)

Are you ready, Steve? (Uh-huh)
Andy? (Yeah)
Mick? (Okay)
Alright, fellas, well, let's go
Well, it's been getting so hard
Living with the things you did to me, ah-ha
My dreams are getting so strange
I'd like to tell you everything I see
Oh, I see a man at the back
As a matter of fact, his eyes are as red as a sun
And the girl in the CORNER, let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one
Oh, yeah, it was like lightning
Everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing
And they all started grooving
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And the man at the back said, "Everyone, attack"
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said, "Boy, I wanna warn ya
It'll turn into a ballroom blitz"
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
I'm reaching out for something
Touching nothing's all I ever do
Oh, I softly call you over
When you appear, there's nothing left of you, ah-ha
Now the man in the back is ready to crack
As he raises his hands to the sky
And the girl in the corner is everyone's mourner
She could kill you with a wink of her eye
Oh, yeah, it was electric
So frantically hectic
And the band started leaving
'Cause they all stopped breathing
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And the man at the back said, "Everyone, attack"
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said, "Boy, I wanna warn ya"
"It'll turn into a ballroom blitz"
Ballroom blitz
Oh, yeah, it was like lightning
Everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing
And they all started grooving
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And the man at the back said, "Everyone, attack"
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said, "Boy, I wanna warn ya
It'll turn into a ballroom blitz"
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz
It's, it's the ballroom blitz
It's, it's the ballroom blitz
It's, it's the ballroom blitz

I'd been standing on a CORNER
Since a quarter after seven
I was down to my last cigarette
And the clock in the window
At a quarter to eleven
I was watching all the people
Passing by me going places
Just the loneliest guy in the town
Looking for a friendly smile
But all that I could see were faces
And then, just like the taste of milk and honey
I found the stranger I'd been looking for
The way my cup of love was overflowing
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
The love it found us on that corner
At a quarter to eleven
I thought you were to good to be true
All my life I had believed
That angels only live in Heaven
But now, we share the taste of milk and honey
Each day is sweeter than the day before
My cup of love is overflowing
Because the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
Deep inside, my cup of love was overflowing
I found the stranger I'd been looking for
The way my cup of love was overflowing
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more

A long time ago, yeah, before you was born, dude
When I was still single and life was great
I held this job as a traveling salesman
That kept me moving from state to state
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering where a city boy could go
To get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Catch a little bit of those Cajun girls
Dancing to Zydeco
Along come a young girl, she's pretty as a prayer book
Sweet as an apple on Christmas day
I said, "Good gracious can this be my luck
If that's my prayer book, Lord let us pray"
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering what a city boy could do
To get her in a conversation
Maybe drink a little red wine
Dance to the music of Clifton Chenier
The King of the Bayou
Well, that was your mother and that was your father
Before you was born, dude, when life was great
You are the burden of my generation
I sure do love you, well let's get that straight
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
Across the street from The Public
Heading down to the Lone Star Cafe
Maybe get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Standing in the shadow of Clifton Chenier
Dancing the night away

Leaning in your corner like a candidate for wax
Sidewalk social scientist don't get no satisfaction from your cigarette
It's ten to ten and time is running out
Lock up all your memories, get outa here, you know that we can run
Today can last another million years
Today could be the end of me
It's 11:59, and I want to stay alive
Pumping like a fugitive in cover from the night
Take it down the freeway like a bullet to the ocean
Wait until the morning, take tomorrow by the hand
Take it down the highway like a rocket to the ocean, we can run
Today can last another million years
Today could be the end of me
It's 11:59, and I want to stay alive
Hanging on a frequency and burning like a fire
Boy you've got the motion down, it's getting late, I'm tired and I've lost control
Don't leave me here, time is running out
Take me down the highway like a rocket to the ocean, we can run
Today can last another million years
Today could be the end of me
It's 11:59, and I want to stay alive
Early in the evenin', just about supper time
Over by the courthouse, they're starting to unwind
Four kids on the CORNER trying to bring you up
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp
Down on the CORNER, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel, tap your feet
Rooster hits the washboard, and people just got to smile
Blinky thumps the gut bass and solos for a while
Poor boy twangs the rhythm out on his Kalamazoo
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo
Down on the CORNER, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel, tap your feet
Down on the CORNER, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel, tap your feet
You don't need a penny just to hang around
But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down?
Over on the CORNER, there's a happy noise
People come from all around to watch the magic boy
Down on the CORNER, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel, tap your feet
Down on the CORNER, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel, tap your feet

If I see you tomorrow on some street in town
Pardon me if I don't say hello
I belong to another, it wouldn't look so good
To know someone I'm not suppose to know
Just walk on by, wait on the CORNER
I love you but we're strangers when we meet.
In a dimly lit corner, at a place outside of town.
Tonight we'll try to say goodbye again.
But I know it's not over, I'll call tomorrow night
I can't let you go so why pretend.
Just walk on by, wait on the corner
I love you but we're strangers when we meet.

Lonely feeling deep inside
Find a CORNER where I can hide
Silent footsteps crowding me
Sudden darkness but I can see
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me
In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me
Jocko says yes, and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they're standing in each other's way
You're tripping back now to places you've been to
You wonder what you're gonna find
You know you've been wrong but it won't be long
Before you leave 'em all far behind
'Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's gettin' us all
She's gettin' us all
Jocko said no, when I came back last time
It's looking like I lost a friend
No use callin' 'cause the sky is fallin'
And I'm getting pretty near the end
A smoke-filled room in a CORNER basement
The situation must be right
A bag of goodies and a bottle of wine
We're gonna get it on right tonight
'Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's gettin' us all
She's getting' us all

City papers blow around me
As the mornin' hits the sky
On the ocean ships are waitin' high
So am I
City sweeper goes around me
He don't need no reason why
If I don't seem in a hurry now
I've arrived
Come on baby won't you save me
Turn this water into wine
Love, emotion, like an ocean
How can I hold back the tide
Baby meet me on the corner
When you hear that whistle blow
If I don't seem like I oughta
The one you used to know
Come on baby wont you save me
Turn this water into wine
Love, emotion, like an ocean
How can I hold back the tide
I'm on high ground
Put this weight down
Of one thing you can be sure
On the ocean ships are sailin'
But I don't need them anymore
Come on baby won't you save me
Turn this water into wine
Love, emotion, like an ocean
How can I hold back the tide
Come on baby won't you save me
Turn this water into wine
Love, emotion like an ocean
Turn this water into wine

In Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say hello
On the corner is a banker with a motor car
The little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a mac
In the pouring rain, very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back
In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean
It's a clean machine
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
A four of fish and finger pies
In summer, meanwhile back
Behind the shelter in the middle of the roundabout
The pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she's in a play
She is anyway
In Penny Lane, the barber shaves another customer
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim
And then the fireman rushes in
From the pouring rain, very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
Penny Lane
Well, I'm a-running down the road
Tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that wanna own me
Two that wanna stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Well, I'm a-standing on a corner
In Winslow, Arizona
And such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord
In a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby
Don't say "Maybe"
I gotta know
If your sweet love
Is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up, I'm climbin' in
So take it easy
Well, I'm running down the road
Trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover
Who won't blow my cover
She's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy
Come on, baby
Don't say "Maybe"
I gotta know
If your sweet love
Is gonna save me
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy
I remember standin' on the corner at midnight
Tryin' to get my courage up
There was this long lovely dancer in a little club downtown
Loved to watch her do her stuff
Through the long lonely nights
She filled my sleep
Her body softly swayin'
To that smokey beat
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
In the poolhalls, the hustlers, and the losers
Used to watch 'em through the glass
Well I'd stand outside at closin' time
Just to watch her walk on past
Unlike all the other ladies
She looked so young and sweet
As she made her alone down that empty street
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
Oohoh
Sometimes even now
When I'm feelin' lonely and beat
I drift back in time and I find my feet
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet
Down on mainstreet

Baby, if you just say you care
Follow you most anywhere
Roll away the STONE, roll away the stone
And in the darkest night
I'll keep you safe and alright
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone
Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it die
No matter if fools say we can't win
I know I'll fall in love again
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone
So sing - we still got a chance
Baby, in love and sweet romance
Roll away the stone, roll away the stone
Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it die
There's a rockabilly party on Saturday night
Are you gonna be there?
(I got my invite)
Gonna bring your records
(Ohh, will do)
Made it
Won't you roll away the stone
Why be cold and so alone?
Won't you roll away the stone
Don't you let it die
Come on roll
Come on roll, yeah
Come on roll
I want you to roll
Come on, yeah
Come on roll
It was the third of September
That day I'll always remember,
Yes, I will
'Cause that was the day that my daddy died
I never got a chance to see him
Never heard nothin' but bad things about him
Mama, I'm depending on you
To tell me the truth
Mama just hung her head and said, "Son,..
[Chorus:]
Papa was a rolling STONE .
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died, all he left us was alone.
Papa was a rolling STONE, my son.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died, all he left us was alone."
Hey, mama!
Is it true what they say that papa never worked a day in his life?
And, mama, some bad talk goin' round town sayin' that papa had three outside children and another wife,
And that ain't right
Heard them talking papa doing some store front preachin'
Talked about saving souls and all the time leechin'
Dealing in debt and stealing in the name of the Lord
Mama just hung her head and said,
[Chorus]
"Papa was a rolling STONE, my son.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died, all he left us was alone.
Papa was a rolling STONE.
Wherever he laid his hat was his home.
And when he died, all he left us was alone."
Hey, mama,
I heard papa called himself a "Jack Of All Trades"
Tell me is that what sent papa to an early grave?
Folks say papa would beg, borrow, steal
To pay his bills
Hey, mama,
Folks say papa never was much on thinking
Spent most of his time chasing women and drinking
Mama, I'm depending on you
To tell me the truth
Mama looked up with a tear in her eye and said, "Son,..
[Chorus]
Papa was a rolling STONE (well, well...)
Wherever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone
Papa was a rolling STONE
Wherever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone."
[Chorus]
I said, "Papa was a rolling STONE (yes, he was, my son)
Wherever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone
My daddy was (papa was a rolling STONE), yes, he was
Wherever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone."

Beneath the white fire of the moon
Love's wings are broken all too soon
We never learn
Hurt together, hurt alone
Don't you sometimes wish your heart was heart of stone?
We turn the wheel and break the chain
Put steel to steel and laugh at pain
Where dreamers and castles are made of sand
The road to Eden's is overgrown
Don't you sometimes wish your heart was a made of stone?
Look at the headlines
Big crowd at the crazy house
Long queue for the Joker's shoes
Ten rounds in the ring with love
Do you lose and win or win and lose
Sweet rain like mercy in the night
(Lay me down wash away the sorrow)
Caress my soul and set it right
(Lay me down show me your tomorrow)
Summer tears, winter and the moment's flown
Don't you sometimes wihsh your heart was made of stone
Mercy, mercy wish your heart was a heart of stone
Get the picture
No room for the innocent
Peak season in Lonely Town
Knocked out of the ring by love
Are you down and up or up and down?
I asked the river for a sign
(In my dreams we go on together)
How long is love supposed to shine?
(In my dreams diamonds are forever)
But you and I
We hurt together
Hurt alone
Don't you sometimes wish your heart was heart of stone?
Mercy, mercy wish your heart was a heart of stone
(In a heart of stone, you'll be well protected)
(In a heart of stone, love's not resurrected)

If I could, I'd like to be
A great big movie star
Overnight sensation
Drive a big expensive car
I would buy you everything
Your little heart desires
These things I do
'Cause I'm STONE in love with you
(Stone in love with you)
If I were a business man
I'd sit behind a desk
I'd be so successful
I would scare Wall Street to death
I would hold a meeting for
The press to let them know
I did it all
'Cause I'm stone in love with you
(Stone in love with you)
I'm just a man, an average man
Doing everything the best I can
But if I could
I'd give the world to you
I'd like to someday be the owner of
The first house on the moon
There would be no neighbors
And no population boom
You might say that all I do
Is dream my life away
I guess it's true
'Cause I'm stone in love with you
I guess it's true
'Cause I'm stone in love with you
I guess it's true
'Cause I'm stone in love with you, you
Well, they'll STONE ya when you're trying to be so good
They'll STONE ya just a-like they said they would
They'll STONE ya when you're tryin' to go home
Then they'll STONE ya when you're there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get STONED.
Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table
They'll stone ya when you are young and able
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck
They'll stone ya and then they'll say "good luck"
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, They'll stone you and say that it's the end
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone
They'll stone you when you are walking home
They'll stone you and then say you are brave
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned.

ne, two, one, two, three, four
I met you, girl, you didn't have no shoes
Now you're walking 'round like you're front page news
You've been awful, careful 'bout the friends you choose
But, you won't have my name in your book of who's who
Not your steppin' STONE
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
You're making your mark in society
Using all the tricks that you used on me
All them high fashion magazines
The clothes you're wearin', girl, are causing public scenes
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
One, two, one, two, three, four
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Not your steppin' stone
Oh, not your steppin' stone, no, not me
Oh, babe, I'm not your steppin' stone
No babe, I'm not your steppin' stone
Babe, not your steppin' stone, not me
Not your steppin' stone
No babe, I'm not your

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People call say 'beware doll, you're bound to fall'
You thought they were all kidding you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hanging out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging your next meal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling STONE
Ahh you've gone to the finest schools, alright Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you're gonna have to get used to it
You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
A complete unknown, like a rolling STONE
Ah you never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discovered that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling STONE
Ahh princess on a steeple and all the pretty people
They're all drinking, thinking that they've got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you better take your diamond ring, you better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you've got no secrets to conceal
How does it feel, ah how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling STONE

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a STONE
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colours will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes, I'm still running
You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believe it
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
Levon Helm
I worked the land to raise a family
Til I was weary to the bone
But hard labor never bothered me
Lord it's all I've ever known
Too many seasons are calamity
And too much interest on the loan
I'm half the size that I used to be
And half of that is stone
The crops ain't worth the seeding
10 will only get you five
The last stock ima feedin'
I can hardly keep 'em alive
I gotta do what I can to survive
I know the law won't be forgiving
But that'll be the choice I made
I used to farm for a living
And now I'm in the growing trade
The summer beauty of the cotton field
Was like a view from heavens door
My granddaddy said that harvest time
Was what the good Lord made us for
I guess he'd wonder where's the dignity
In a crop you raise to burn
But this land is my legacy
I got nowhere else to turn
Shotgun on my shoulder
Where a tow sack oughta be
The thieves are getting bolder
And the feds may be watchin' me
I gotta quit this eventually
I know the law won't be forgiving
But that'll be the choice I make
I used to farm for a living
But now I'm in the growing trade
Helicopters in the distance
Coming closer everyday
They're gonna meet some resistance
Ain't no price I wouldn't pay
There won't be any difference
When they take it all away
Between the cop in the jailhouse
And the lay out beneath the clay
I guess there's nothing to do now but pray
I know the law won't be forgiving
But that'll be the choice I made
I used to farm for a living
And now I'm in the growing trade
I used to farm for a living
And now I'm in the growing trade

You got to be crazy, gotta have a real need
Gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You got to be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You got to strike when the moment is right without thinking
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's gonna get harder, harder, and harder as you get older
Yeah, and in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer
And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
Dragged down by the stone
Gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
Everything's done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer
Who was born in a house full of pain?
Who was trained not to spit in the fan?
Who was told what to do by the man?
Who was broken by trained personnel?
Who was fitted with collar and chain?
Who was given a pat on the back?
Who was breaking away from the pack? (Breaking away)
Who was only a stranger at home? (Only a stranger)
Who was ground down in the end? (Ground down)
Who was found dead on the phone? (Found dead)
Who was dragged down by the stone?
Who was dragged down by the stone?
Arnold Layne had a strange hobby
Collecting clothes
Moonshine, washing line
They suit him fine
On the wall hung a tall mirror
Distorted view
See-through baby blue
He dug it
Oh Arnold Layne, it's not the same
Takes two to know
Two to know
Two to know
Two to know
Why can't you see?
Arnold Layne
Arnold Layne
Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne
Now he's caught, a nasty sort of person
They gave him time
Doors bang, chain gang
He hates it
Oh Arnold Layne, it's not the same
Takes two to know
Two to know
Two to know
Two to know
Why can't you see?
Arnold Layne (Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne)
Arnold Layne, don't do it again
You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me
Wo-oh
You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees
Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any PERSON place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me
So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me
Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any PERSON place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me
So good-bye I'll be leaving

People
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children
Needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children
Lovers
Are very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one PERSON
One very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half, now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
With one person
One very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half, now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
First be a person who needs people

[Verse 1]
This is the awards for industry and free enterprise
So let me sit you down and tell you, how I won first prize
I took on your free enterprise and your pretty little shops
I walked in with empty bags and walked out with the lot
[Chorus]
So I've come for my award, I've come for my award
I thought I'd come in PERSON, that's the least I can afford
Let hands be shook, champagne poured
Sentence ignored, yes, I've come for my award
[Verse 2]
This is the awards for industry and free enterprise
Anyone wants a gold watch in a ladies' size
There's a few more 'round the back, I stole them from your shop
We've got no more in silver, that's all that you'd got
[Chorus]
So I've come for my award, I've come for my award
I thought I'd come in person, that's the least I can afford
Let hands be shook, champagne poured
Sentence ignored, yes, I've come for my award
[Bridge]
I chatted with your guards and winked at roving eye
A thousand hidden cameras were searching 'cross the sky
But they didn't see me pinch them from underneath their eyes...
[Chorus]
So I've come for my award, I've come for my award
I thought I'd come in person, that's the least I can afford
Let hands be shook, champagne poured
Sentence ignored, yes, I've come for my award
Jesus was my greatest accomplice
Jesus was my greatest accomplice
Jesus was my greatest accomplice
Yes, I've come for my award
[Outro]
Hairdryer, overcoat, telly, dot-to-dot
Video, compact disc, there's nothing we forgot
Whilst I was busy smiling my father got the lot
I've come for my award

I gave a letter to the postman
He put it in his sack
Bright early next morning
He brought my letter back
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone
We had a quarrel, a lover's spat
I write I'm sorry, but my letter keeps coming back
So then I dropped it in the mailbox
And sent it special D
Bright and early next morning
It came right back to me
Return to sender, address unknown
No such PERSON, no such zone
This time I'm gonna take it myself and put it right in her hand
And if it comes back the very next day then I'll understand

Jesus just left Chicago
And he's bound for New Orleans
Well now, Jesus just left Chicago
And he's bound for New Orleans
Yeah, yeah
Workin' from one end to the other and all points in between
Took a jump through Mississippi
Well, muddy water turned to wine
Took a jump through Mississippi
Muddy water turned to wine
Yeah, yeah
Then out to California through the forests and the pines
Ah, take me with you, Jesus
You might not see him in PERSON
But he'll see you just the same
You might not see him in PERSON
But he'll see you just the same
Yeah, yeah
You don't have to worry 'cause takin' care of business is his name
I guess I should've known by the way you parked your car sideways
That it wouldn't last
See, you're the kinda PERSON 🧍♂️ that believes in makin' out once
Love 'em and leave 'em fast
I guess I must be dumb 'cause you had a pocket full of horses
Trojan and some of them used
But it was Saturday night
I guess that makes it all right
And you say, "What have I got to lose?"
And, honey, I say, "Little red Corvette."
Baby, you're much too fast (Oh)
Little red Corvette
You need a love that's gonna last
I guess I should've closed my eyes when you drove me to the place
Where your horses run free
'Cause I felt a little ill when I saw all the pictures
Of the jockeys that were there before me
Believe it or not, I started to worry
I wondered if I had enough class
But it was Saturday night
I guess that makes it all right
And you say, "Baby, have you got enough gas?"
Oh, yeah!
Little red Corvette
Baby, you're much too fast
(Yes, you are)
Little red Corvette
You need to find a love that's gonna last
(Oh, oh)
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
A body like yours oughta be in jail
'Cause it's on the verge of bein' obscene
Move over, baby, gimme the keys
I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine
Little red Corvette
Baby, you're much too fast
Little red Corvette
Need to find a love that's gonna last, hey hey
Little red Corvette
Honey, you got to slow down (Got to slow down)
Little red Corvette
'Cause if you don't, you're gonna run your little red Corvette right in the ground
(Little red Corvette)
Right down to the ground (Honey, you got to slow down)
You, you, you got to slow down
(Little red Corvette)
You're movin' much too fast, too fast
Need to find a love that's gonna last
Girl, you got an ass like I never seen, ow!
And the ride
I say, "The ride is so smooth. You must be a limousine."
Ow!
Baby, you're much too fast
Little red Corvette
You need a love, you need a love that's, uh, that's gonna last
(Little red Corvette)
Babe, you got to slow down (You got to slow down)
Little red Corvette
'Cause if you don't, 'cause if you don't
You're gonna run your body right into the ground (Right into the ground)
Right into the ground (Right into the ground)
Right into the ground (Right into the ground)
Little red Corvette

6 o'clock in the morning & I'm the last person in this plane still awake
Y'know I can almost smell the blood washing against the shores,
Of this land that can't forget its past.
Oh the wind that carries this plane, is the wind of change,
heaven sent and hell bent!
over the mountain tops we go, just like all the other GI Joes
EE-AY-EE-AY - adios!
This is your captain calling - "with an urgent warning"
We're above the Gulf of Arabia - "our altitude is falling"
& I can't hold her up - "there's no time for thinking"
All hands on deck - "this bird is sinking"
Across the beaches and cranes, rivers and trains
all the money I've made - bodies I've maimed.
Time was when I seemed to know,
Just like any other GI Joe
Should I cry like a baby, or die like a man
While all the planets like wars start joining hands,
Oh what a heaven - what a hell!!
Y'know there's nothing can be done in the whole wide world.
I don't know whats wrong or right,
I'm just a regular guy, with bottled up insides,
I ain't ever been to church or believed in Jesus Christ
but I'm praying that Gods with you when you die!!!
Is it an horrific dream?
Am I sinking fast?
Could a person be so mean
As to laugh and laugh on my own?
Could you ease my load?
Could you see my pain?
Could you please explain the hurting?
Could you understand a child
When he cries in pain?
Could you give him all he needs?
Or do you feel the same all along?
You've been told you're wrong
When you felt it right
And you're left to fight the hurting
The hurt
Hurt
Hurt
The hurt
Hurt
Hurt
Get in line with the things you know
Feel the pain, feel the sorrow
Touch the hurt and don't let go
Don't let go, don't let go
Get in line with the things you know
Learn to cry like a baby
Then the hurting won't come back
Won't come back, won't come back
The hurt
Hurt
Hurt
The hurt
Hurt
Hurt
(Is it an horrific dream?)
Hurt, hurt, hurt
(Is it an horrific dream?)
Hurt, hurt, hurt
(Is it an horrific dream?)
Hurt, hurt, hurt
(Is it an horrific dream?)
Hurt, hurt, hurt
(Is it an horrific dream?)
Hurt, hurt, hurt

Hurt, hurt, hurt
Slim Dusty
They had my future wrapped up in a parcel
And no one even thought of asking me
The day I turned 15, I caught the mail train
To find what else might be in life for me
I rode on trucks and trains and lived on nothin'
Served me right for wanting to be free
Ah well, that's the way society looked at it
But it didn't seem to be that way to me
And the biggest disappointment in the family was me
The only twisted branch upon our good old family tree
I just couldn't be the person they expected me to be
And the biggest disappointment in the world was me
A lot more dinner times than there were dinners
I learned a lot that hurt me at the time
Then this quiet country boy went home a different man
With a memory of distance on my mind
But I always spoke too loud and laughed too often
Maybe drank to many glasses down
And perhaps my clothes were older than I realised
A relief to all concerned when I left town
And the biggest disappointment in the family was me
The only twisted branch upon our good old family tree
I just couldn't be the person they expected me to be
And the biggest disappointment in the world was me
And the biggest disappointment in the family was me
The only twisted branch upon our good old family tree
I just couldn't be the person they expected me to be
And the biggest disappointment in the world was me

In the year of '39
Assembled here, the volunteers
In the days when lands were few
Here the ship sailed out
Into the blue and sunny morn'
The sweetest sight ever seen
And the night followed day
And the storytellers say
That the score brave souls inside
For many a lonely day
Sailed across the milky seas
Never looked back, never feared, never cried
Don't you hear my call?
Though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew
In the year of '39
Came a ship in from the blue
The volunteers came home that day
And they bring good news of a world so newly born
Though their hearts so heavenly weigh
For the Earth is old and grey
Little darling went away
But, my love, this cannot be
For so many years have gone
Though I'm older, but a year
Your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me
Don't you hear my call?
Though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew
Don't you hear my call?
Though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you?
All your letters in the sand
Cannot heal me like your hand
For my life, still ahead, pity me

… I can still remember when I bought my first guitar
Remember just how good the feeling was, put it proudly in my car
And my family listened 50 times to my two song repertoire
And I told my mum her only son was gonna be a star
… Bought all the Beatle records, sounded just like Paul
Bought all the old Chuck Berry's, 78's and all
And I sat by my record player, playin' every note they played
And I watched them all on TV, makin' every move they made
… Rock and roll, I gave you all the best years of my life
All the dreamy sunny Sundays, all the moon-lit summer nights
I was so busy in the back room writin' love songs to you
While you were changin' your direction and you never even knew
That I was always, just one step behind you
… '66 seemed like the YEAR I was really goin' somewhere
We were living in San Francisco, with flowers in our hair
Singing songs of kindness, so the world would understand
But the guys and me were something more than just another band
… And then '69 in LA, came around so soon
We were really making headway and writing lots of tunes
And we must have played the wildest stuff we had ever played
The way the crowds cried out for us, we thought we had it made
… Rock and roll, I gave you all the best years of my life
All the crazy lazy young days, all the magic moon-lit nights
I was so busy on the road singin' love songs to you
While you were changin' your direction, and you never even knew
That I was always, just one step behind you
Do-do-do-do-doo (do-do-do-do-doo)
Do-do-do-do-doo (do-do-do-do-doo)
… '71 in Soho, when I saw Suzanne
I was trying to go it solo, with someone else's band
And she came up to me later and I took her by the hand
And I told her all my troubles and she seemed to understand
… And she followed me through London, through a hundred hotel rooms
Through a hundred record companies who didn't like my tunes
And she followed me when, finally, I sold my old guitar
And she tried to help me understand, I'd never be a star
… Rock and roll, I gave you all the best years of my life
All the dreamy sunny Sundays, all the moon-lit summer nights
And though I never knew the magic of makin' it with you
Thank the Lord for giving me the little bit I knew
And I will always be one step behind you
… Rock and roll, I gave you all the best years of my life
Singing out my love songs in the brightly flashing lights
And though I never knew the magic of makin' it with you
I thank the Lord for giving me the little bit I knew
… Rock and roll, I gave you all the best years of my life
All the dreamy sunny Sundays, all the moon-lit summer nights
I was so busy in the back room makin' love songs to you

All I wanna do when I wake up in the morning is see your eyes
Rosanna, Rosanna
I never thought that a girl like you could ever care for me
Rosanna
All I wanna do in the middle of the evening is hold you tight
Rosanna, Rosanna
I didn't know you were looking for more than I could ever be
Not quite a YEAR since she went away, Rosanna, yeah
Now she's gone and I have to say
Meet you all the way
Meet you all the way, Rosanna yeah
Meet you all the way
Meet you all the way, Rosanna yeah
I can see your face still shining through the window on the other side
Rosanna, Rosanna
I didn't know that a girl like you could make me feel so sad
Rosanna
All I want to tell you is now you'll never ever have to compromise
Rosanna, Rosanna
I never thought that losing you could ever hurt so bad
Not quite a YEAR since she went away, Rosanna yeah
Now she's gone and I have to say
Meet you all the way
Meet you all the way, Rosanna yeah
Meet you all the way
Meet you all the way, Rosanna yeah
Not quite a YEAR since she went away, Rosanna yeah

In the YEAR 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you
In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgment day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find

I woke up to yet another day
Grown to expect, expect more of the same
Except for, for a subtle change
And that is, I'm slowly fading away
Harvest moon, soon will pass
Crop is gone, left only chaff
A bitter pill, and an overcast
A flag unfurled, at half mast
Ah
A YEAR to the day
Since you went away
The moment in time
When you were last mine
I'm here standing still
Yeah, with more time to kill
Hey, I barely survived
Yeah, I barely survived
Like pouring salt on an open wound
Memory filling, filling this empty room
I'm as bare, I'm as bare, as a barren womb
Still like the air, in a whitewash tomb
Ah
A YEAR to the day
Since you went away
A moment in time
When you were last mine
I'm here standing still
Hey, with more time to kill
I barely survived
Yes, I barely survived
Ah
A YEAR to the day
Since you went away
A moment in time
When you were last mine
I'm here standing still
Been standin' still
With more time to kill
Hey, I barely survived
Yeah, I barely survived
A YEAR to the day
YEAR to the day
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I barely survived
Three sixty-five
Three sixty-five, five, five
Ah
Heart beats fast
Colours and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt
Suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer
I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand YEARS
I'll love you for a thousand more
Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
One step closer
I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand YEARS
I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand YEARS
I'll love you for a thousand more
One step closer
One step closer
I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand YEARS
I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand YEARS
I'll love you for a thousand more
Paul Kelly
They got married early, never had much money
Then when he got laid off they really hit the skids
He started up his drinking, then they started fighting
He took it pretty badly, she took both the kids
She said: "I'm not standing by, to watch you slowly die
So watch me walking, out the door"
She said, "Shove it, Jack, I'm walking out the fucking door"
She went to her brother's, got a little bar work
He went to the Buttery, stayed about a year
Then he wrote a letter, said I want to see you
She thought he sounded better, she sent him up the fare
He was riding through the cane in the pouring rain
On Olympic to her door
He came in on a Sunday, every muscle aching
Walking in slow motion like he'd just been hit
Did they have a future? Would he know his children?
Could he make a picture and get them all to fit?
He was shaking in his seat riding through the streets
In a silvertop to her door
