Effective today any child under the age of 16 in Australia is not allowed to be on social media sites. The ones in question are Instagram, Facebook, threads, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, Kik, Reddit, twitch and X.

Of course it won't be 100% effective but damn it's a good idea and you have to rip the Band-Aid off somewhere.
I just wonder how long it will take the kids will find a workaround.
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 15:28 other posts
While it seems like a good idea, this all show and no substance. It’s impossible to enforce it. Typical of progressive politicians, the Aussie government is taking the easy route, banning children on social media with no way to ensure it works, just so they claim they did something and feel good about it.

Is it better than doing nothing?
By bella! [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 16:59 other posts
I agree, kebmo, it’s better than doing nuthin’ !
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 18:03 other posts
Wouldn’t it be better to do something effective, rather than just jerking off?
By kebmo [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 18:47 other posts
This is more than any country in the world has done for the safety of children on social media and yet here you are shitting on it.
Besides children, the people who really don't like this would be ped0ph1les and perverts.
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 20:21 other posts
Nice straw man, buddy.

I’m only stating facts. There is no way to enforce this ban. It’s all for show, and nothing more. It’s the moral equivalent of wishing on a star.
By CAT52! [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 18:59 other posts
Effective like what? At least they are trying.
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 20:11 other posts
Trying what?

This is the moral equivalent to what they’re doing in Australia: A person is swimming twenty-five yards out in the water, when he suddenly realizes he can’t make it back to shore.

He sees people on the beach and he begins to call to them just as he begins struggling to stay afloat.

The people on shore hear his cries and look out on the water and locate the struggling person.

But, instead of heading out on the water to effect his rescue, they all begin praying that he gets saved. They all pray really, really hard.

And, he slips under the water and drowns.

Here’s what they all say afterward: Well, we did something. At least we tried.

Same thing.
By cenozoic [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 00:42 other posts
Lots of beaches have dedicated lifesavers and swim safe zones.
Same Same
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 00:45 other posts
That’s not the point. The point is that Australia is just jacking off, when it comes to “child safety” and the internet.

They can now claim, with puffed up chests, “Look, everyone! We did something,” even though it’s totally and utterly meaningless!
By CAT52! [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 07:17 other posts
That would s exactly the point. Many situations that beg for a solution can’t be helped except in a token way. Your opinion is, generally, valid. But, there are many **** people (because we tend to think that this was passed to protect the little tikes ) that won’t listen to parents to not use social media but, can’t argue if they can’t access social media due to government actions. If one kid’s life is positively impacted, then, this is a good effort.
However, if we accept that this is whistling in the wind, then, as a very smart man, what do you recommend should be done short of shutting down the internet?
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 13:03 other posts
The onus should be on the parents, not the government. Government has always had the excellent ability for messing up the lives of the people it was allegedly supposed to serve. History is rife with examples of government NOT doing the right thing, time after time. Billions have died prematurely because of organized governments.

In a perfect world, more parents would be more attentive and protective of their children. This is not a perfect world, however. People are flawed.

The ironic part is that government is made up solely of people. As stated above, people are flawed.

Why should we, then, trust government to always do the right thing, if the people in it are just as imperfect as the rest of us?

One thing is for sure: we can always trust the government to make a bad situation worse. Not even religion has had the ability to make the world right, and religion has been around far longer than government. The problem with religion, is the same as the problem with government: there are people involved in it.

A problem exists, and government’s solution, more often than not, is to make feel-good empty gestures for bragging rights, that is, when it's not trampling all over human rights. Doing “something" then becomes justification for spending more of our hard-earned money, just to micro-manage our lives.

The solution is to stop wanting the government to fix our lives and to take responsibility for ourselves. Modern societies have become far too reliant on government to solve their problems. That nonsense must stop, because government, whether through sheer incompetence or maliciousness, will ultimately be the end of human dignity and the death of humanity.

I’m guessing you are an anarchist
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 15:21 other posts
No. I’m for limited government by the people. I’m for government that takes care of infrastructure, protects national borders, and protects national interests. Today’s governments are no longer for the people. They are for the self-interests of the persons controlling them. They’re for the elitists, of the elitists, and by the elitists.

Anarchists want the world to burn. They produce nothing but misery. I want the world to be protected, because I live in it. I merely don’t want the State to tell me how I should live my life, so long as I am harming no one.

It’s not a black and white world. Why do you seem to insist that it is by labeling me an anarchist? Do you actually believe that there are only two sides in this issue: total submission/dependency or total anarchy?
By CAT52! [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 11:06 other posts
The control of the people, even by elitists, in this country, is achieved by having elections. You can argue, and I won’t dispute it, that money, lies, manipulation of facts, and character assassination is/are frequently used to get votes. Elections, however, where a voter CHOOSES to vote for an individual, is what chooses what our government will be. The results may or may not be good for the people, but, they choose. The limits that these governments have are directly proportional to the educated participation of the electorate and, the constant supervision of those that believe that because they got elected can do whatever they want. I’ve always believed that NO ONE wants an excess of government. Just enough to keep us safe and accommodating to our needs.

Okay, you are not an anarchist. I didn’t label you. Thanks for that clarification. It was more of a question by me than a statement, but, you are a conservative, right leaning, citizen, right? So, let me ask you, what do you think of the EPA, the WHO, abortion, gun control, conservation laws, and treatment of illegal aliens? Because, in my book, many people want to live their lives in a cocoon where they don’t care about their neighbors. They just, and I quote, “don’t want the State to tell me how I should live my life, so long as I am harming no one.”

And no, I don’t believe “ that there are only two sides in this issue: total submission/dependency or total anarchy?” and I never said that. I notice you project to conclusions that are not what I’ve written (I do that too, sometimes 🤣 I’ve also noted that the minute you saw my opinion and you didn’t like them, you went straight to character assassination instead of refuting them with facts. It seemed that you dismissed me and my opinions because I’m a dumb blond woman that should stay away from politics. I’m going to borrow from your book and say you are a misogynist.

So we should let kids drive, smoke, drink and vote when they're seven years old? Get that government out of there.
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 15:12 other posts
Always gotta go for the worst case scenario, huh. Proper parental guidance would prevent that, but here you are, promoting more government. Sheesh!

Why is it always a worst case scenario?

Government has been usurping the family unit for decades now. Look at the cities with the worst crime statistics. The family units are virtually non-existent in those communities, because government stepped in and told people, “You can’t do this alone. We’re here to help.”

You destroyers just can’t leave things alone.
By phart [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 23:20 other posts
I think it was Johnson that told mothers they didn't need a father in the house, the government would pickup the tab.that was some of the early stages of the demise of America. when family was devalued.
By CAT52! [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 10:23 other posts
Who is the Johnson you are referring to?
By phart [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 10:32 other posts
that piece of shit that had Kennedy murdered
By CAT52! [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 11:12 other posts
That is your opinion, but, don’t you think that 50 +/- yrs, with so many Republicans in power, that that supposedly bad advice would have been given the boot? Even today, a yr after the Clown got re-elected, I don’t hear him saying, “Johnson was wrong”.
By CAT52! [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 11:22 other posts
Look to me, you are putting the cart before the horse. Government stepped in BECAUSE those cities were out of control. However, in what form did they step in? Bigger police forces? More funds for education? Fighting poverty? More employment? Higher minimum wages? Fairer voter participation?
Those family units that are virtually non-existent are a huge problem. I agree, but, without Big Government, how do you propose we deal with it? And before you say there’s too much red tape and waste of resources (and I agree with that), remember, nothing is perfect but something has to be done. Individual help is needed but it’s nowhere enough. Government help has to be.
By phart [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 11:28 other posts
The simple concept of NOT reproducing if you can't support the results would be a Giant step in the right direction and would cost nearly ZERO to the individual "needing help" and the taxpayer.

Why not a blanket ban for all users.
By Lookatmine2 [Ignore] 10,Dec,25 00:55 other posts
Shut down the entire internet. That’s the only sure way to “protect” the children. They’ll have to go back to sneaking peeks at girlie magazines, like in the old days.

The AlGoreRhythms are a problem for about everything on the net. I use Youtube for music and sometimes just because i listen 1 song from a artist that is a bit different than usual, holy shit, if i walk away and let the thing autoplay, there is some shit will come up that makes me want to wack the computer with a hammer!
By CAT52! [Ignore] 11,Dec,25 11:50 other posts
So don’t walk away. They want to be helpful. I’ve been using YouTube premium for years and most of the time they come up with a very good selection of videos I like. The more you use it the more they get it right.

The little crotch goblins will just lie about their ages or have their parents make them an account. As long as the parents give them phones and access to any internet capable device it won’t stop them.

Like I said, the kids will probably find a workaround. I just wonder how long it will take for about 50% of the kids to be back online. Maybe they'll learn how to do crazy things like have conversations and maybe their neck will not hurt as much from constantly looking down. Maybe but I honestly think probably not but it's better than doing nothing.

Well that car owner is in for a headache because how do you file a claim to get your car fixed? It was not in a wreck with another vehicle, and airplanes don't carry auto insurance.
By Cody8789 [Ignore] 09,Dec,25 23:42 other posts
Doesn’t matter, your car insurance. Pays you to fix your car once you cover your deductible, and the insurance. Companies lose out unless they try to sew the airplane operator

I have been in SW Florida for 2 months and I really don’t recall there being any “rain” days. Tonight, there’s a good amount of rain and a thunderstorm, too!
By CAT52! [Ignore] 08,Dec,25 17:09 other posts
You are in the beginning of the dry season. Rain during these times (October to April) occurs ahead of a cold front.

And it has been a cool day today! I was up and out at 08:15 for a mani and pedi in Fort Myers and it was 59 degrees! Brrrrrrr! Fast forward to shortly after 5pm and back in LaBelle and it’s only 67 degrees! Not what I consider to be typical SW Florida weather, but I must admit that it looked like what I would have expected to be an overcast/going to rain kinda sky!

The one I really enjoyed was the one where the instructor (that’s my guess) appeared to fall forward into a push-up then bounced up and into a squat. The “hell no, that’s not happening!” look on the woman’s face that was standing behind her as she shakes her head left to right said it all!

I could not help but notice that RedFoxy is already off to a commanding lead in the May Pic of the Month after already winning for the month of April. Congratulations on the April win, BTW!

Alas, I receive a system notification that CountryCouple54 has entered May Pic of the Month. Woo hoo! A true contest! Choices! Strange, I go to place my vote and notice with only 3 votes prior to my vote, some ying-yang already voted [NOT] on CountryCouple54's entry. If this isn't a case of "WTF, I'm just being a shithead" vote , I don't know what is!

Mine, too. I just don't understand the logic behind voting [NOT] as there is nothing [NOT] about Mrs. CountryCouple54. To vote [NOT] seems to be sheer malice and/or jealousy.

Well we didn't want it to be a one picture contest. LoL. We'll see how it goes. But we have a feeling it will get out of control, and we ain't got the time or energy to play that game again.
